Thousand protest Trump immigration policies

Tens of thousands of protesters are taking part in more than 700 events across the United States to campaign against President Donald Trump's immigration policies.

The day of protests was organized after the Trump administration controversial Mexico border policy that saw immigrant children separated from their parents.

This week the US Supreme Court also upheld a travel ban against people from five Muslim-majority countries - another issue that campaigners say undermines America's welcoming stance.

In New York City thousands turned out to protest president Trump's immigration policies, crossing Brooklyn Bridge to symbolize the Mexico border crossing. 

The protests, under the title Families Belong Together, are fighting the separation of immigrant children from their parents.

President Trump has reversed the child separation policy with an executive order. 

But his "zero tolerance" policy remains. And as immigrants will be detained and criminally charged, organizers say action is still needed.

"What this executive order shows us is that as a President he recognized that he does not have the American people on his side. But he apparently thought we would be fooled by this executive order and we are not. It is not an acceptable solution to keep parents and children together in jail."

Excitement builds in UK ahead of England-Belgium World Cup game

World Cup excitement is mounting in the UK as the England team prepare to face Belgium in the group stage final in Kaliningrad.

US postpones talks with Indian government at the last minute

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has informed the Indian Foreign Minister that a high level dialogue between the two countries has been postponed due to 'unavoidable circumstances'.

The European Union tries to calm tensions on migration

The European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos is attempting to bridge tensions between EU member states before a series of summits on migration.

Mr. Avramopoulos is on damage control after Italy threatened to boycott German Chancellor Angela Merkel's informal summit set for this weekend.

That's because Italy sees the EU prioritizing German Chancellor Angela Merkel's immigration proposals rather than their own.

UN Refugee Agency says global displacement spiked in 2017

By the end of 2017, wars, violence and persecution had driven more 68 and a half million people to flee their homes, according to new data from the UN refugee agency.
