A junior minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has earned flak after he was seen honouring eight men who were convicted for lynching a cattle trader in 2017.
A mob of more than 100 cow vigilantes had hacked cattle trader to death in the Indian state of Jharkhand on the suspicion that he was carrying beef in his car. A majority of Hindus consider the cow to be a holy animal and cow slaughter is banned in many Indian states.
