The basis of modern computing is a binary system, represented by the numbers 1 or 0, the 'on' or 'off' of any gate within a circuit. By contrast, quantum computing exists simultaneously in three configurations, namely 0, 1, and both (all possibilities) at the same time. It holds out the potential to harness massive amounts of computing power and at great speed with massive implications for fields like logistics, pharmaceuticals, finance, and aerospace technologies. So far governments have invested $2.2 billion in research, according to Deloitte. The major players are China, the United States and the European Union. Many are collaborating and making their existing quantum computers available for researchers to conduct complex calculations  on the cloud.


The US House of Representatives is hosting a hearing featuring leading experts in this cutting-edge field, including  Michael Brett, CEO, OxBranch; Dr. Christopher Monroe, Chief Scientist and Founder, IonQ, Professor of Physics, University of Maryland; and Dr. Matthew Putman, Founder and CEO, Nanotronics.
